About the Role
Greater New York City, NY Area (Hybrid)(New York City, New York)
The Company is seeking a hands-on Java Back-End Engineering Lead to guide day-to-day engineering execution for a software platform. The role combines regular production coding with technical leadership, including ownership of complex engineering challenges, setting implementation direction, and conducting rigorous code reviews. The successful candidate will lead low-level design discussions, translate requirements into detailed technical plans, and mentor engineers through pairing, reviews, and feedback. They will also drive delivery planning, manage technical risks and debt, and promote automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and operational readiness. Candidates should have 6–10 or more years of hands-on backend development experience, with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, microservices, and REST or gRPC APIs. They should demonstrate technical leadership, thorough code-review skills, low-level design capability, and a solid grounding in software fundamentals, including concurrency, databases, API design, and testing. Experience in large-scale, regulated, or enterprise environments is valued, along with clear communication and the ability to mentor engineers. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience—is required; familiarity with cloud-native technologies, containers, Agile delivery, or digital asset platforms is beneficial.
