General Counsel & Corporate Secretary Greater Washington D.C. Area

The Company is seeking a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary to serve as its chief legal officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing licensed legal judgment and privilege across a wide range of areas, including litigation, commercial contracting, regulatory and operating authority, insurance and risk, corporate governance, and corporate transactions. This role involves directing legal operations, managing outside legal spend, and serving as the Corporate Secretary. The General Counsel will also be tasked with building and maintaining documented legal processes to ensure the function operates smoothly in their absence. Applicants must have a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, an active license to practice law, and a minimum of 10 years' post-qualification legal experience, with at least 4 years in a senior in-house legal role. The ideal candidate will have a generalist commercial background and experience in areas such as regulated transportation, logistics, or multi-site services. Key qualifications include a strong understanding of commercial insurance programs, corporate governance, and the ability to provide independent legal analysis. The role requires a disciplined, forthright, and process-minded individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with executives, the Board, and external stakeholders.
