Special Counsel, Civil Litigation

The Company is seeking a Special Counsel, Civil Litigation to independently manage a civil defense caseload from initial evaluation through trial. Responsibilities include developing case strategy, serving as a primary client contact, and handling discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, arbitration, and courtroom proceedings. The role also involves drafting complex legal documents, providing practical, business-focused advice, and contributing to the growth of the litigation practice. Candidates must hold a J.D. from an accredited law school, have an active North Carolina law license, and bring at least five years of civil litigation experience, preferably in complex defense matters. Strong advocacy, legal research, writing, analytical, communication, organizational, and client relationship skills are required, along with sound judgment and strategic thinking. Experience in one or more areas such as construction, products liability, professional liability, premises liability, or commercial litigation is preferred.
