Vice President of Compute Greater San Jose, CA Area
About the Role
Greater San Jose, CA Area (Hybrid)(Palo Alto, California)
The Company is seeking a Vice President of Compute to build and lead the platform that delivers reliable, customer-ready AI compute at scale. The role owns the compute architecture and lifecycle, from hardware onboarding, provisioning, validation, and cluster operations through customer handoff and ongoing reliability. Responsibilities include developing bare-metal orchestration and scheduling, fleet health and observability, customer-facing compute capabilities, and security and tenant-isolation practices. The Vice President will establish and grow a multidisciplinary engineering organization, set platform strategy, and work across infrastructure, networking, capacity, finance, and customer teams to deliver against commitments. The role also includes shaping technology partnerships and deciding which parts of the software stack to build, adopt, or integrate. Candidates should bring 15 or more years of experience building and operating large-scale compute or cloud infrastructure, including at least seven years leading large organizations. They must have directly owned a production compute platform at scale, with accountability for reliability and customer outcomes, and have led a platform transformation while maintaining service for existing customers. The ideal candidate is hands-on, outcome-driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to engage deeply in engineering decisions while communicating effectively with senior leadership. Experience leading AI-first engineering teams and using AI agents in development and operations is important; accelerator or high-performance computing, regulated infrastructure, and startup-to-scale experience are advantageous.
