Interim Executive Director of Place

The Company is seeking an Interim Executive Director of Place to play a pivotal role in the Council's transformation and improvement agenda. This senior leadership position is responsible for a diverse portfolio that includes regeneration, planning, economic development, environment, highways, and public realm. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across these areas, with a significant focus on driving regeneration and sustainable economic growth. Key responsibilities include leading major capital programs, building effective relationships with stakeholders to unlock investment, and ensuring the delivery of strategic priorities. The role also demands a strong corporate presence, contributing to the Council's collective leadership and fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and accountable culture. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading complex place, regeneration, planning, economic development, highways, or environmental portfolios at a senior level. They should be adept at managing substantial budgets, delivering financial efficiencies, and driving performance across large teams. The role requires the ability to identify commercial opportunities, improve value through contract and supplier management, and support income generation. The Interim Executive Director of Place will be expected to translate strategic priorities into tangible outcomes for residents and communities, and to operate effectively within a complex and politically sensitive organization.
