Overview As the CMO, you’ll join our Executive Team and collaboratively help set the strategic direction and growth of the NSLS. Because we are a 80 person mission driven organization, you’ll also ensure direct results by pitching in, project managing, and executing as necessary to ensure results. An ethos of “roll up your sleeves and get it done” is shared by all here. We are based just outside NYC in Jersey City, NJ, easily accessible by subway/path train or ferry. Responsibilities Oversee the following areas: Marketing and New Business/Product Development. After 8 to 12 months, also oversee: Sponsorships/Partnerships, Sales, and Events. Manage and expand the existing marketing team of about 10 people Determine and track KPIs for the marketing department Analyze company's existing marketing strategy, suggest and implement improvements, as well as create and present the annual marketing plan and strategy Assess new marketing opportunities for generating revenue Plan, organize, and lead new product development Use data and reports to make evidence-based decisions Design and coordinate promotional campaigns to drive sales Drive updates to existing materials and website for conversion rate optimization Lead vendors in strategy, content, and creation of videos to drive various conversion results Review and manage content marketing strategy Manage teams, projects, resources, outside vendors, consultants, customer service contractors, and public relations agencies Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of communications methods, costs, and results (e.g. web-based communications tools) specific to chapter and member engagement Adeptly lead crisis response as needed Qualifications Bachelor's degree required 10+ years of experience in marketing 5+ years of experience managing a marketing team Experience in strategic planning and execution You have been a jack-of-all-trades in marketing with experience, leadership and success in many areas of marketing: social media, web, video, print, response, digital and other areas - with the ability to connect all of these pieces to create clear and measurable strategy Passion for innovation with the ability to initiate ideas and lead initiatives from inception Gifted mind for details, planning, workflow, systems and process You are an early adopter of new technology and platforms to connect with target audiences over the years (Instagram, Twitter, Hubspot, TikTok, SEO, etc.) Experience creating and executing internal and external communication plans Writing, editing and proofreading skills required Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently with a high degree of initiative and collaboratively as part of a team Ability to manage and prioritize many marketing and communications needs concurrently with a strong attention to detail, perform effectively in a fast-paced environment, think strategically, and meet deadlines in a timely manner while maintaining professionalism and product quality Your Qualities You have an amazing eye for quality, whether it’s in copy, design, or content creation. You naturally find ways to continually improve anything you put your attention on. You have an instinctual knack and love of the art of persuasion, with a demonstrated ability to guide it across mediums, whether through course design that both serves and sells, or via landing pages and emails that outperform (while not feeling “salsey”), or via other methods. You are a natural at strategy – how do we do X and Y now such that it not only generates immediate results, but also sets up step Z for later. You also find opportunities that serve multiple goals – not just better ROI, but also in ways that improve the product, improve the ability to create or deliver it, etc. You are grounded and unflappable, yet flexible. You have the ability to hold a strong point of view, combined with a flexible and open mind that accepts input and adapts gracefully. You possess an inquisitive, active and incredibly quick and sharp mind that grasps both what is being said, while being able to detect the nuances of what is being shared between the lines or behind the scenes. You’re good at drawing out what needs to be seen or heard and then integrating it into plans and workflow. You have a high emotional IQ and are able to navigate complex human dynamics with grace and ease. You’re an exceptional listener, who listens, comprehends, negotiates and loves a back and forth that ultimately creates something better than where you all started. Your Mindset You have an entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on ROI. You think about the resources available and the way to maximize them. You have a love of optimization and continual improvement. You frequently ask, “What can be seen in the data and in the results, and how could it be made better?” You then act, observe, repeat. You have a can-do, get it done, let’s make it happen, bootstrap it if necessary mentality. You’re good at delegation but you can also get it done as you grow the team across time. You are an information marketer at heart – you know that program design and content delivery is at heart a marketing exercise. What does the student want and need? How can we shape our programs to deliver it, and thus easily speak to it in all promotional materials? Marketing, communications, program design, program delivery, websites – they’re all related. You have a holistic mind that looks at the whole puzzle as well as the individual pieces. You see how all the pieces can best fit together so there is flow and congruence across all platforms (which coincidentally makes the marketing and sale of the given program or product easier). You have a strong interest in personal growth and development – you’ve taken courses, read books, created regular practices, etc. to expand, improve and refine yourself. You are mission driven. You’ve purposefully found ways to make a difference, give back, and contribute through your work or personally.
