Chief Executive & Head of Paid Service

The Company is seeking a Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service to provide strategic and organisational leadership for a developing regional authority. The role involves translating the Mayor’s vision into clear strategies, investment priorities, and measurable outcomes, while building an agile, accountable, and commercially aware organisation. The successful candidate will drive economic growth, regeneration, infrastructure investment, and place-based development; strengthen relationships with government and regional partners; and ensure strong governance, financial stewardship, and public accountability. They will also represent the region and provide clear advice while navigating competing priorities. Candidates should bring significant executive- or board-level leadership experience and a strong record of transformation, growth, or major programme delivery. Strong commercial and financial acumen, experience managing substantial investment or complex portfolios, and the ability to work effectively with boards, elected representatives, government, and senior stakeholders are essential. The role also calls for outstanding influencing, relationship-building, and negotiation skills, alongside sound judgement, resilience, political awareness, and experience leading through complexity and change. A commitment to governance, accountability, and public value is required.
