Head of Risk, Governance & Building Safety

The Company is seeking a Head of Risk, Governance & Building Safety to play a pivotal role in the organization's growth and development. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and leading a second-line control function, with a focus on health and safety, and will not be involved in day-to-day property management. Instead, the role is centered on providing oversight, challenge, and direction across risk, governance, regulatory compliance, and building safety. Key responsibilities include designing and developing the risk, governance, and compliance framework, providing strategic oversight of building safety compliance, and establishing clear responsibility boundaries and standards across the business. The role also involves providing independent challenge to operational teams, supporting controls related to contractors, insurance, and legal risk, and developing risk registers and governance dashboards for senior leadership. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022, fire safety legislation, and the wider leasehold governance framework. Experience in building, strengthening, or leading governance and compliance frameworks within residential property is essential, as is the ability to work credibly with senior leadership and various stakeholders. The role requires clear communication skills, the ability to identify control weaknesses, and the judgement to require appropriate corrective action. Experience with higher-risk buildings, safety case support, and regulatory matters is beneficial, and qualifications in leasehold property management and health and safety are also advantageous.
