Vice President of Underwriting, P&C Excess & Umbrella

The Company is seeking a Vice President of Underwriting to lead technical underwriting, pricing, and coverage decisions for property and casualty excess and umbrella insurance and reinsurance. The role provides underwriting guidance to field teams, reviews referrals, and documents approval or denial decisions. The successful candidate will help maintain underwriting quality, develop sound business processes, support product development, and ensure regulatory and internal compliance. Responsibilities also include conducting audits, maintaining underwriting guidelines, and working with senior leadership to advance underwriting objectives. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, business administration, or a related field, along with generally 10 or more years of liability underwriting experience. Experience with reinsurance and underwriting referrals is required, and most experience should be on the retail rather than broker or wholesale side. Strong analytical skills are needed to assess complex risks and develop appropriate underwriting strategies. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are also essential for working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
