Chief Science Officer to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Greater Stuttgart, Germany Area
About the Role
Greater Stuttgart, Germany Area (Hybrid)(Stuttgart, Germany)
The Company is seeking a Chief Science Officer to lead its research agenda in robot learning and embodied AI, taking research from real-world data through training, evaluation, and deployment. The role will set priorities across models, planning, learning from interaction, and generalization, while directing data and compute strategies and developing evaluation methods that reflect real operational performance. The Chief Science Officer will build and lead the research organization, recruit senior talent, and work closely with engineering, product, and operations to bring research into production. The position also includes advising on publication and intellectual property decisions, developing academic partnerships, and representing the Company’s scientific work to external stakeholders. Candidates should have experience leading research in robot learning or embodied AI and building a research team, with work demonstrated on real robots, ideally in sustained operational settings. A strong scientific record and the ability to make informed decisions about research priorities, data, and compute are required. Applicants should be able to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical audiences and collaborate across research, engineering, and operations. A PhD in machine learning, robotics, or a related field—or equivalent experience—is expected; experience with large-scale model pretraining, fleet learning, industrial manipulation, or both academic and industry environments is an advantage.
