Interim Head of Legal, International Assignment Greater Conakry, Guinea Area

The Company is seeking a Head of Legal - Senior Corporate Counsel for an international assignment in Conakry, Guinea. The successful candidate will be a senior, commercially minded legal professional with a minimum of 10 years' post-qualification experience, including a strong background in corporate and commercial law, and proven experience in mining, infrastructure, natural resources, or major industrial projects. This strategic role involves providing legal leadership, managing the in-country legal function, and acting as a key legal adviser to the local Managing Director and senior leadership team. The Head of Legal will be responsible for overseeing complex legal and regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with legal obligations, and supporting major commercial, operational, and regulatory decisions. Applicants must be qualified lawyers, admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction, and have excellent professional proficiency in both French and English. The role requires a candidate with a demonstrated ability to operate in complex multicultural environments, particularly in Africa or comparable emerging markets. Experience in government relations, regulatory compliance, and a strong understanding of legal risk management are essential. The ideal candidate will have a background that includes previous experience as a Head of Legal, Legal Director, General Counsel, or Senior Corporate Counsel, and a proven track record of managing legal teams and external counsel. Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, as well as a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to legal challenges, are also key competencies for this position.
