About the Role
Greater San Francisco, CA Area (On-site)
The Company is seeking a Head of Antenna Systems to lead the development of in-house antenna capabilities for their pioneering high-altitude, solar-powered UAVs. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of antenna architecture, including direct-to-device and backhaul links across global telecom bands. This role demands a leader with a hands-on approach, who can shape antenna strategy for the unique communication needs of the platform, and set the technical standards for the team. The Head of Antenna Systems will also be tasked with modeling and simulation for service coverage, designing and prototyping high-performance antennas, and integrating them into the vehicle structure in collaboration with aero and mechanical engineering teams. Applicants for the Head of Antenna Systems position at the company should have a strong background in RF and antenna design, with a focus on propagation, link budgets, and system-level radio performance. Deep expertise in phased arrays, patch arrays, and reflectors is essential, as is a proven track record of integrating antennas into aircraft, UAVs, or spacecraft. The role requires hands-on experience with relevant tools and equipment, such as HFSS, CST or FEKO, VNAs, and anechoic chambers. The ideal candidate will have experience leading technical teams, particularly in a startup or early-stage program, and be prepared to build and grow the antenna and RF team as the company expands. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of a revolutionary communication technology and to play a key role in the future of autonomous UAVs.
