Head of Risk Remote (anywhere in United States)

The Company is seeking a Head of Risk to build and own its risk process for a concentrated investment portfolio. The role involves maintaining a current map of positions, their investment rationales, exit conditions, and exposures; reviewing positions daily for stale, contradictory, or unintended risk; and identifying residual or unmonitored positions for resolution. The Head of Risk will develop actionable exposure and scenario views, monitor counterparty, financing, and operational risks, specify the data and tools needed for effective oversight, and produce a concise daily decision-focused update. This is a hands-on individual contributor role, working closely with the principal, trading desk, and technical team. Candidates should have experience running a risk function at an investment fund, family office, proprietary trading desk, or bank, and demonstrate sound judgment in assessing discretionary portfolios. Strong knowledge of positioning, derivatives, factor and liquidity exposure, and counterparty risk is required, along with the ability to translate investment theses into clear position-level risk assessments. The role calls for self-direction, disciplined follow-through, concise communication, and comfort adapting to a fast-changing investment process. Candidates should be able to specify and ideally prototype data tools using Python, SQL, or spreadsheets, and use modern AI tools with careful verification.
