Head of Policy & Public Affairs

The Company is seeking a Head of Policy and Public Affairs to take on a pivotal role in leading its engagement with European and UK regulatory and policy bodies, particularly in the context of the EU AI Act. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end management of this engagement, including direct line management of a policy team and close collaboration with the company's research, safety, and executive functions. The role demands a senior policy leader with substantive depth in European AI policy, capable of representing the company in public and engaging with regulators at a high level. The Head of Policy and Public Affairs will also be involved in the company's external positioning, working closely with the CEO, and will be expected to travel frequently to relevant policy events. Applicants for the Head of Policy and Public Affairs position at the company should have a background that includes experience as a current or recent senior policy leader at a peer frontier lab, a large technology firm with an AI policy focus, or a relevant European institution. The role requires a candidate who is not only comfortable with the public-facing aspects of the job but is also deeply knowledgeable about the substance of European AI policy, including the intricacies of the EU AI Act and its associated codes of practice. The ideal candidate will be adept at handling the full spectrum of policy engagement, from written submissions to on-record briefings, and will be able to operate at a level where both regulators and the company's own research leads can engage with the work. A background as a current Head of Policy at a peer frontier lab, a senior policy advisor from a relevant European institution, or a partner-track lawyer with a technology specialism in public policy is highly valued.
