Senior Legal Counsel

The Company is in search of a Senior Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal team. The successful candidate will be tasked with delivering high-quality legal and commercial advice across various areas of law, including scheme management, corporate affairs, commercial transactions, and litigation. This role involves close partnership with internal stakeholders to identify and address legal issues, overseeing external counsel on complex cases, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation. The Senior Legal Counsel will also be responsible for providing professional leadership, coaching, and mentoring to in-house lawyers, as well as fostering a culture of safety and risk management. Applicants for the Senior Legal Counsel position at the company should hold an LLB qualification with a current New Zealand practicing certificate or eligibility to hold one. A minimum of 5-10 years' of post-qualification experience, with a strong focus on commercial or insurance law, is required. The role demands a candidate with a proven track record in applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, developing and implementing litigation strategies, and the ability to effectively communicate and manage legal services within the organization. While not mandatory, IT literacy, including experience with document management systems, is ideal.
