Head of Compliance, Payments/Crypto

The Company is seeking an MLRO/Head of Compliance to spearhead its local compliance and financial crime efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for owning and maintaining the compliance and AML framework, acting as the MLRO, and managing relationships with local regulators. This role is pivotal in ensuring the business adheres to all relevant AMLO, SFC, HKMA, and Customs & Excise requirements, and involves overseeing AML/CFT, sanctions, transaction monitoring, and suspicious transaction reporting. The MLRO/Head of Compliance will also be expected to support licensing work, engage in ongoing regulatory activities, and provide guidance to senior leadership on regulatory developments in the payments, virtual assets, and stablecoin sectors. Applicants for the MLRO/Head of Compliance position at the company should have a background in compliance or MLRO roles within the payments, crypto, virtual assets, or fintech industries. A strong knowledge of Hong Kong AML/CFT and virtual asset regulation is essential, as is experience in direct engagement with local regulators. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on, practical approach that is well-suited to a scaling business and may have an advantage if they are proficient in Mandarin or Cantonese. The role requires the ability to build and implement policies, procedures, and training across the business to ensure a robust compliance culture.
