General Counsel

The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as its chief legal officer and primary legal advisor. The successful candidate will lead all legal affairs, providing strategic counsel in areas such as governance, labor and employment, litigation, student matters, public contracting, investigations, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk. This role is pivotal in ensuring the legal integrity and compliance of the organization, and the General Counsel will be a key member of the executive leadership team, reporting directly to the Board of Education. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should be accomplished legal executives with a minimum of 15 years' progressive legal experience, including a strong background in advising executive leadership and governing boards within large, complex K-12 educational systems. The role requires expertise in navigating sophisticated governance structures, labor and employment issues, investigations, and litigation, particularly in highly visible stakeholder environments. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in these areas and must be admitted to the State Bar of California. The General Counsel will be based in San Francisco and is expected to be in the office full-time, with a preference for individuals with existing ties to the San Francisco Bay Area or prior experience in large California K-12 school districts.
