Head of AI Governance

The Company is seeking a Head of AI Governance to lead the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence in a complex, regulated environment. The role will establish and evolve the AI governance operating model, including policies, processes, responsibilities, and decision-making mechanisms. Responsibilities include maintaining an inventory of AI systems, classifying risks, and overseeing controls throughout the model lifecycle. The successful candidate will set practices for validation, explainability, bias detection, monitoring, and human oversight; coordinate governance forums and improvement plans; and report on risks and control effectiveness. The role also involves leading a specialist team and collaborating with business, technology, risk, legal, and compliance stakeholders. Candidates should have at least eight years of experience in AI governance, model risk, data governance, or regulatory compliance, along with demonstrated experience implementing governance or model risk frameworks. They need a solid understanding of AI, machine learning, generative AI, and model lifecycles, as well as knowledge of the EU AI Act, GDPR, and relevant UK regulations. Experience leading teams and influencing international, matrixed organizations is required. Advanced education in a relevant discipline and fluency in English are also required; experience in insurance, financial services, or healthcare is valued.
