General Counsel, Wealth Management

The Company is seeking a commercially minded General Counsel to guide its legal strategy during a period of growth. Working closely with senior leadership, the successful candidate will advise on partnerships, financing, product development, and expansion into new markets. Initially serving as the sole in-house lawyer, they will establish and develop the legal function while handling both strategic matters and day-to-day drafting, negotiation, and legal issues. Responsibilities include advising on commercial agreements, lending arrangements, cross-border activity, governance, and business risks, while collaborating with commercial, product, and risk teams. Candidates must be qualified lawyers with relevant UK experience and strong commercial judgment, ideally with prior General Counsel experience in wealth management. They should bring experience negotiating agreements in wealth management, investment platforms, or custody, alongside a solid grounding in lending, banking, or financing transactions and cross-border arrangements. The role calls for the ability to work independently, communicate complex issues clearly, assess risk proportionately, and help colleagues reach practical decisions. Comfort with ambiguity and motivation to build a growing legal function are also important.
