Vice President, Principal Backend Engineer Greater Toronto, Canada Area

The Company is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer, Vice President to take on a pivotal role in the strategic ownership of backend systems for a global digital experience platform. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and evolving the backend architecture, designing and building high-performance backend services and APIs, and implementing security-first engineering practices. This role demands a hands-on approach to development, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability. The Principal Backend Engineer will also be involved in technical decision-making, mentoring senior engineers, and serving as the technical escalation point for complex production incidents. Applicants must have 6 to 10 years of backend software development experience, with a strong background in Java and its frameworks, distributed systems, microservices architectures, and RESTful API design. Hands-on experience with identity and access management solutions, cloud-native development using Docker and Kubernetes, and exposure to GCP and AWS environments is essential. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, with a Master's degree being preferred. The ideal candidate will also have a solid understanding of both relational and NoSQL database technologies, and familiarity with additional backend technologies such as Unix environments and distributed caching solutions. Experience in integrating AI capabilities and knowledge of frontend integration considerations are beneficial.
