The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as its chief legal officer and lead the legal aspects of a significant organizational transition. This role is pivotal in the restructuring and separation process, particularly in the context of the company's evolution to a unified regional model. The General Counsel will be responsible for a wide range of legal and regulatory issues, including but not limited to, charter law, governance, employment and labor, student rights, special education, contracts, privacy, and risk. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Executive team, providing legal advice and guidance to the President, CEO, Board, and senior leaders, and will be instrumental in setting and maintaining legal and compliance standards across the organization. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should hold a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of California. A minimum of 10 years of legal practice, with a strong preference for those with in-house experience in a charter management organization, school district, public agency, or comparable nonprofit, is required. The role demands a deep understanding of California charter school and education law, employment law, and nonprofit governance. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing legal functions, overseeing outside counsel, and providing strategic legal advice in a complex, high-stakes environment. Experience in nonprofit restructuring, entity formation, and facilities financing is also highly valued. The General Counsel must be adept at communicating legal issues clearly, managing legal risks, and ensuring that the organization's legal practices align with its mission and values.
