Head of Engineering Remote (anywhere in United States)

The Company is seeking its first Head of Engineering to lead a largely self-directed team and shape its engineering practices, technical direction, and hiring. This player-coach role combines team leadership with hands-on coding, code review, and support on complex technical challenges. Responsibilities include setting planning, testing, release, and incident processes; guiding foundational architecture and platform roadmaps; and building security and compliance into engineering workflows. The Head of Engineering will also introduce AI-enabled development practices, partner with product and design on roadmap decisions, and represent engineering in leadership discussions. Candidates should have experience leading engineering teams through growth, managing senior engineers, and building strong teams. Recent production experience with TypeScript or JavaScript and a background in a regulated industry are required, along with ownership of reliability, observability, development environments, and incident response. The role calls for sound hiring judgment, effective collaboration with product and design, clear written communication, and the ability to apply AI tools thoughtfully. Experience in digital health or healthcare, or leading engineering work related to SOC 2 or HITRUST, is an advantage.
