Head of Legal

The Company is in search of a Head of Legal to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of legal activities, including managing contracts, supporting business development transactions, and overseeing the legal function in Japan. This role involves close coordination with the global legal team, external law firms, and various specialists. Key responsibilities for the Head of Legal include drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts, identifying legal risks, and advising on contract execution. The role also encompasses handling seal applications, electronic signatures, and the confirmation of appropriate signatories, as well as supporting legal matters related to business development, such as M&A, licensing, and business alliances. Applicants for the Head of Legal position at the company should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, with a preference for a legal background. The ideal candidate will have more than 5 years' practical legal experience in a corporate legal department or more than 3 years' in a law firm or corporate legal department for qualified lawyers. Professional-level proficiency in Japanese and English is required. The role demands practical experience in corporate legal matters, including M&A, corporate financing, and public markets-related legal matters. Experience in manufacturing, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, or a related industry is also preferred, along with a background in equity compensation, insurance, intellectual property, or internal policy and rule development. The Head of Legal will be expected to lead a team, manage work allocation, and coordinate with relevant departments.
