Associate General Counsel, Commercial Contracts
About the Role
Greater Los Angeles, CA Area (Headquarter location)
The Company is seeking an Associate General Counsel with a focus on commercial contracts to join their legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full spectrum of commercial contracting, including the drafting, negotiation, and execution of a variety of agreements. This role is pivotal in building the contracting infrastructure, developing templates, playbooks, and a contract lifecycle system to ensure the company's legal obligations are met. The Associate General Counsel will also be involved in advising on employment and workplace matters, supporting corporate work, and ensuring compliance across various legal areas. The ideal candidate will have a J.D. and active membership in the California State Bar, with a minimum of 2 years' of legal practice, and a strong background in commercial law. Applicants for the Associate General Counsel position at the company should be adept at running negotiations independently, have a working knowledge of California employment law, and be comfortable with a broad range of legal issues. The role requires a candidate who can take ownership of the contracting function, is capable of making decisions without a committee, and can quickly adapt to new regulatory environments. While experience in a fast-moving defense start-up is not mandatory, a background in hardware, manufacturing, aerospace, or defense-adjacent industries is a plus. The company values candidates who are proactive, can work with technical subject matter, and are willing to engage with engineering counterparts. The role is based in Torrance, CA, and the candidate must be able to work onsite.
