Associate Vice President, Underwriting Manager, Middle Market

The Company is seeking an AVP Underwriting Manager for the Middle Market. This role is pivotal in managing a team of skilled Property & Casualty production Underwriters, with a focus on driving an engaging team culture and cultivating key broker relationships. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting a flexible work schedule, supporting the team through necessary travel, and ensuring the team is equipped to meet the needs of customers, brokers, and agents. A strong technical, staff development, and sales execution mindset is essential, as is the ability to be a top customer advocate with a sales mindset, strong technical underwriting skills, and solution-focused problem-solving abilities. Applicants for the AVP Underwriting Manager position at the company should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent with at least 7 years of experience in the underwriting or market-facing area, or a combination of a High School Diploma or Equivalent with 14 years of experience in the claims or under support area, or a Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5 years of experience in the underwriting or market-facing area. A minimum of 2 years of management experience is also required. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, CPCU, advanced knowledge of product lines and the insurance industry, excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and a strong background in strategic planning, execution, and negotiation. The role demands a candidate with a proven track record in managing complex portfolios, technical knowledge of insurance industry operations and processes, and expertise in risk selection and market environment anticipation.
