Deputy Chief Communications & Community Engagement Officer Greater Charlotte, NC Area

The Company is seeking a Deputy Chief Communications & Community Engagement Officer to advise senior leadership on organizational priorities, communications strategy, reputation, emerging issues, and stakeholder relations. The role translates strategic priorities into coordinated communications and engagement plans, leads public outreach, and uses brand and audience insights to inform decisions and executive reporting. It also builds relationships with community and regional stakeholders, supports inclusive engagement, and aligns communications across departments and channels. The position oversees staff and cross-functional work, including recruitment, coaching, performance management, and delivery of program goals. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public administration, political science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least eight years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public affairs, community engagement, or stakeholder relations is required, along with five years of supervisory or team-lead experience. Preferred qualifications include a relevant master’s degree, ten or more years of related experience, and leadership experience in a public-sector or similarly complex environment. Strong strategic analysis, writing, public speaking, media and digital communications, and data-analysis skills are important, along with proficiency in office and project-management software.
