Chief Safety Officer Greater Mokopane, South Africa Area

The Company is seeking a Chief Safety Officer to support and strengthen safety systems across its operations. Responsibilities include conducting workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations; verifying critical controls; and tracking corrective actions and compliance findings through to closure. The role provides safety guidance and coaching to employees, supervisors, contractors, and safety representatives, while promoting a proactive culture focused on legal compliance and harm prevention. The successful candidate will monitor safety performance, maintain accurate records and reports, support assurance activities, and guide the safety team in coordinating operational safety initiatives. Candidates should have Grade 12, a BTech degree, and recognized safety training such as COMSOC 1 and 2, SAMTRAC, or an equivalent qualification; ISO 45001 implementation or auditing training is also required, while a blasting ticket is advantageous. A minimum of five years’ relevant safety, risk, or operational experience in mining, processing, or underground environments is required, including two years in a supervisory, senior safety, or coordination role. Applicants should be experienced in safety management systems, inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, audits, and control verification. Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, risk assessment methods, critical control management, contractor safety, emergency preparedness, and safety reporting is essential, along with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant digital safety systems.
