About Circle of Care
Circle of Care for Families and Children of Passaic County is a nonprofit Care Management Organization serving youth and families across Passaic County who are navigating complex behavioral, emotional, developmental, and substance use needs.
As part of New Jersey’s Children’s System of Care, Circle of Care works alongside youth and families to help them remain safely at home, in school, and connected to their communities.
The Opportunity
Circle of Care is seeking a volunteer Board Trustee who can bring the perspective of youth and families to Board conversations and decisions. We are particularly interested in a parent, caregiver, grandparent, adult former youth, or other family member who has experience navigating New Jersey’s Children’s System of Care, either personally or while supporting a child or youth who received services.
Previous Board experience is not required. We are looking for someone who is willing to share their perspective, ask questions, learn about nonprofit Board service, and help keep the experiences of youth and families present in our discussions.
Board Trustees have fiduciary and governance responsibilities for Circle of Care, including acting with care, loyalty, and sound judgment, making decisions in the organization’s best interests, and helping ensure its resources are managed responsibly.
What Board Trustees Do
Trustees:
- Participate in conversations about Circle of Care’s mission, priorities, and future.
- Bring a youth and family perspective to Board discussions and decisions.
- Give voice to how policies, systems, and services may be experienced by youth and families.
- Ask questions and contribute their perspective during Board and committee discussions.
- Support accountability for Circle of Care’s mission and priorities.
- Serve as ambassadors for Circle of Care by building relationships, making community connections, advocating for our mission, and supporting resource development.
- Maintain confidentiality and disclose potential conflicts of interest.
- Fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities of a nonprofit Board Trustee.
Who We Hope to Reach
We welcome people who:
- Have personal or family experience navigating New Jersey’s Children’s System of Care.
- Care about improving services and systems for children and families.
- Are willing to share their perspective while recognizing that every family’s experience is different.
- Are comfortable participating in conversations and asking questions.
- Are willing to learn about nonprofit Board service and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Can work collaboratively with people who bring different professional and personal perspectives.
Previous professional, nonprofit, or Board experience is not required. Candidates from Passaic County are strongly encouraged to apply, and individuals from throughout Northern New Jersey are also welcome.
Board Service Commitment
Board Trustees are expected to:
- Attend and actively participate in six regular Board meetings each year.
- Serve on at least one Board committee, which generally meets six times each year.

- Participate in Circle of Care community events and other opportunities to represent and support the organization.
