This role is pivotal in the company's growth, and the VP, Head of Legal will be responsible for establishing and scaling the legal function, as well as managing legal risk and supporting strategic priorities. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, an active license to practice law, and 10-15+ years of relevant legal experience, with a strong background in life sciences, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical companies. Key responsibilities for the VP, Head of Legal include serving as a senior legal advisor to the executive team and Board of Directors, leading corporate governance matters, and providing legal support for significant corporate transactions. The role also involves partnering with internal and external stakeholders on legal and regulatory risk management, and developing and maintaining legal and compliance policies. The candidate should have a proven track record in managing outside counsel, establishing legal processes, and scaling legal infrastructure. Experience in intellectual property, licensing, and research-related agreements in a life sciences environment is essential, as is the ability to communicate complex legal matters clearly to both legal and non-legal audiences. The role is well-suited to an experienced in-house life sciences attorney who is adept at balancing strategic and detailed legal work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
