Chair (Board-level role)
About the Role
Greater London, United Kingdom Area
The Company is in search of an active Chair to lead its Board and support the organization through a significant phase of strategic and organizational development. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Executive, Creative Director, trustees, and committee chairs to strengthen Board effectiveness, maintain clear governance, and ensure sound judgment. This role is pivotal in connecting the organization's governance with its executive leadership, providing thoughtful support and constructive challenge, and acting as an influential ambassador to support the company's reputation, fundraising, and external relationships. While experience in theatre or the arts is not essential, candidates should have a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges faced by creative, cultural, or purpose-led organizations, and be collaborative, inclusive, commercially aware, and clear about the distinction between governance and management. Candidates for the Chair position at the company should bring Board-level leadership experience and a proven track record of supporting senior leaders through various organizational changes. The ideal candidate will have a strategic perspective, sound judgment, and strong relationship-building skills, with a focus on charity governance, sustainability, and risk. The role requires a leader who can guide the Board through change, particularly in the context of the organization's ambitions to broaden its reach, develop its digital and international presence, and strengthen its contribution to the cultural life of London and the world. The Chair will be instrumental in the company's next phase of development, and as such, a clear understanding of the responsibilities and challenges of the role is essential.
