Deputy General Counsel
About the Role
Greater Washington D.C. Area (Hybrid)
The Company is in search of a Deputy General Counsel to join its dynamic team. The successful candidate will be a key legal partner, providing broad legal counsel across government and commercial contracts, governance, fundraising, and compliance. This role is pivotal in supporting the company's diverse portfolio of federal programs and commercial enterprise, with a focus on enabling critical missions in various environments. The Deputy General Counsel will be responsible for a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to, drafting and negotiating contracts, leading on governance improvements, and serving as the Export Control Lead. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic, business-minded attorney with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school, active membership in at least one U.S. state bar, and a minimum of 10 years' of relevant legal experience. Key qualifications for the role include a strong background in U.S. government and commercial contracts, corporate governance, and legal compliance. The candidate should have exceptional communication skills, the ability to operate independently in a startup environment, and a proven track record of advising business leaders on legal risk. Preferred qualifications include experience in highly technical and regulated industries, familiarity with federal agencies, and a background in science or engineering. The role demands a professional who can work closely with the executive team, engineering, finance, and other departments, and who is adept at managing disputes, and compliance obligations, and building legal infrastructure to support the company's growth.
