Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Part-Time Greater Washington D.C. Area

The Company is seeking a part-time Chief Financial Officer to provide hands-on financial oversight and strategic guidance. The CFO will partner with organizational leadership on financial strategy, sustainability, revenue opportunities, and decision-making, while leading budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis. Responsibilities include presenting financial results and recommendations to governance groups, coaching staff on budgets, overseeing accounting processes and internal controls, and coordinating audit preparation with external professionals. The role also includes supporting funder budgets and fundraising discussions, reviewing investment information, and communicating financial insights through clear narratives and presentations. Candidates should bring progressive financial leadership experience and demonstrated expertise in nonprofit accounting, along with strong skills in budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, internal controls, and audit oversight. Experience working with boards, treasurers, and finance committees, as well as supporting funder budgets and collaborating with development and program colleagues, is required. Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel and a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field are also required. A CPA designation, prior CFO or comparable leadership experience, and experience in nonprofit human services are preferred; strong judgment, clear communication, and collaborative relationship-building are essential.
